One Rant and Three Loves

Hope you're all enjoying a lovely weekend full of well-deserved rest and fun!

I was going to devote one whole entry to a packaging failure that has me seething and foaming at the mouth, but I like to post about happier things on the weekend and riling up people is best reserved for the week day, no? So, I give you One Rant + Three Loves. The three nice things should balance out the negativity of one rant, right? Here goes.

I HAVE ISSUES WITH URBAN DECAY.

See what happened here? I had this up for the blog sale and it seemed perfectly fine. I hadn't used it more than 3-4 times and I guarantee that LIZ HULK SMASH did not happen in this case. I usually treat my products with care and knowing that this was going to someone else made me even gentler than usual with it. But when a lovely fellow blogger wanted to buy it and I took it out of the "for sale" box, I found that the cap encasing the dispenser point had completely fallen off the tube along with the dispenser! I took a picture and tweeted Urban Decay's tweeter who ignored me and went on retweeting and responding to only positive comments. I was already pissed off that a perfectly good product had to go to waste (the primer potion was already drying up in the tube and wouldn't even come out to be depotted) but brands who ignore legit customer queries and concerns seriously bring out the Hulk in me. SMASH SMASH SMASH - UNFOLLOW! What's the point of having a Twitter account? This is why I follow very few brands on Twitter, if any. All they do is retweet every single praise sent their way and clog up your timeline with useless non-information. The point of Twitter is two-way communication resulting in interaction. Brand Twitter accounts are a resource as valuable as a FAQ, not just self-promotional blabbering. Many brands don't manage this well and that's why I just follow other bloggers who are much more discerning and retweet only useful things.

In any case, I returned the UDPP at Sephora where a couple of wonderful sales associates spent up to half an hour tracking down the SKU since it was a limited edition product. They apologized and gave me some samples as well, though the apology is certainly not theirs to make. I'm done with Urban Decay! They and their silly packagings can bite me.

</rant>

I HEART!

Colourful lightweight scarves light up a boring neutral work outfit. And they don't necessarily have to be expensive to be good quality. I find many items lacking in durability from H&M but this scarf was washed multiple times without falling apart. One of the best $17 ever spent.

One of my favourite TV shows, Nikita, was renewed for a third season! I have a habit of falling for quality shows that are always on the verge of cancellation, season by season (hello, Veronica Mars) -- so I was really happy to hear that it lived in favour of Ringer which was just terrrrrible. Though Nikita seems like another silly CW fluff, it's one of the better balanced shows out there right now with just the right amount of light and dark, action and exposition, character development and plot development.

I'm finally on Pinterest and I NEED HELP. It's like a giant wish board and all I have lately are wishes. I resisted creating an account because I knew that it was going to be addictive and I'd no longer live a physical life but just exist via pins and repins... but I'm thinking of transitioning into some sort of marketing career and mastering the beauty of quality pins seems like it might assist that nobler goal. You can follow my mad pinning sprees by clicking on the button on the right column or here.

And that's it. What are your raves and rants this week?

  1. YES THEY ARE RENEWING NIKITA?! HAPPY DANCE. Sorry about the UDPP, that sounds incredibly frustrating. And that definition of Pinterest...completely accurate hahah

      Right? Damn this Pinterest thing!

  2. UGH there are few brands I follow on Twitter for this exact reason. Chances are I'm following you because I already like your product and want to know when you make more or have sales, not to read a useless retweet every 30 seconds. And Urban Decay packaging in general drives me bonkers. I approve of HULK SMASH.

    1. Exactly! I really think that these tweeters don't get it. They just do as some of the early tweeters have done and haven't caught on to the fact that those promotional retweets are irritating. I'm always glad for an excuse to hit the unfollow button!

  3. YIKES! That Primer Potion looks like it had its head torn off by Godzilla, lol! I can't believe that UD ignored you like that; Props to the folks at Sephora for treating you like a human being....sort of makes up for it....just sort of.

That scarf is SO pretty and perfectly in tune with the spirit of the season; it's a great find for sure, having been washed so many times and it still looks THAT good? Kudos on an excellent purchase, my friend!

Pinterest....ah, Pinterest....when I first created my account, I was literally obsessed; my pinning spree has definitely slowed down, but that's only because I have about 10 bajillion things happening in my life right now, but let me just say that in about 3-4 weeks from now, I will most likely start pinning like a fiend...a FIEND, I tell you!

    Thanks for sharing, Liz!

    1. I think I may have received a better response (or a response, period) if I had emailed them but didn't even want to bother at that point. I get that the Twitter account gets a lot of @ messages that they can't keep up with but I really feel they don't know how to deal with complaints and ignore them on purpose. BAD CHOICE.

Ha, well, you are wise to focus on your 10 bajillion things! I've been pushing them aside this week and slacking big time. I sort of have my act together today so hopefully that means a little more productivity this week and less pinning, lol. (Also: I love a fiendish Eugenia!)

  4. What the heck is up with that tube? Yeah, I can't believe they ignored you. I unfollowed them as well - I do get tired of the constant retweets and there's not much from the brand that I actually like any more. I'm glad you were able to return it at Sephora!!!

As for Pinterest, I'm following you ;) I go in waves with it, myself.

    1. I follow some of them temporarily if they run contests... but most of them are only for US residents anyway. :(

My waves are like a tsunami, LOL. I'll try not to overspam everyone's timeline!

  5. Oh dear, that UDPP does not look good! And boo on UD for not replying to you. I would expect better from such a well known and successful company.

    1. I don't like how they've been doing things lately in general as well. The rising cost of the Naked Palettes as well as that new refillable one that seems to be more of a money grab than customer service? No, thanks!

  6. I'm not sure how I follow a 'person' on Pinterest - I'm just new to it as well - but I am following some of your boards now :)

Lame about the UD tube and non-response! #fail on their part! But oooh that is one lovely scarf! And I'm still smarting after Veronica Mars being cancelled, it was SUCH a great show! There we're rumors floating around about a movie, but nothing ever came about, sadly :(

    1. What? You're not going to follow all 10000 of my boards???? LOL

Veronica Mars was on the chopping block after Season 1, which was its best season. The fans sent Mars bars to the network offices and ran all sorts of campaign and that's what really saved the show in the end. It's a shame as I really got attached to the characters but the show went on the decline with a much weaker Season 2 and a horrible Season 3. Still, I would have hung in there for 4. The movie will never happen - I've been keeping tabs on it. Rob Thomas, KBell and the entire cast would love to do it but no one is willing to fund it since it'll cater to such a small amount of the movie-going audience. I just rewatch S1 & S2 now and then and get my delight out of snarky V, Logan and Weevil!

  7. Wow. Now that sucks. And yeah, I'm not surprised they ignored you. Shopper's has ignored me as well since I wrote about them selling me an expired foundation. But they were sneakier and pretended to care on twitter and asked me to email them, but I have heard NOTHING back since. Bastards.
I love Pinterest too. It's like window shopping on my couch. :)

    1. Shoppers USED TO have an excellent tweeter who would ask for specific details via direct messaging on Twitter. Now they ask you to email them, which is then read by a different person/team of staff, and presumably ignored. I didn't bother sending an email the last time I had a gripe because I distinctly got the feeling it would land in a complaints graveyard. Keep hounding them! What happened was wrong!

Hmmm... I just talked myself into emailing Urban Decay. Thanks, Tracy! ;)

  8. LOL, for some reason, the picture of that Urban Decay tube made me laugh super hard. I guess I just wasn't expecting it. :P But it was SUPER nice of Sephora to take it back. Seriously, they're like the Wal-Mart of cosmetics.

I think I may start watching Nikita, because it seems similar to Alias without the ridiculous sci-fi shit they added in after Season 3. Also because Maggie Q is nice to look at.

I refuse to join Pinterest because the last thing I need is another online content sharing service to get addicted to.

P.S. I really enjoy how you put LIZ HULK SMASH in bold AND green.

    1. YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN MY FACE. I was like, "WTFFFFFFF????" when the thing fell into two pieces in my hands. And you should have seen the faces of the sales associates at Sephora! lol

Ignore how bad the first half of S1 of Nikita is and then it starts to get seriously awesome. And yes, Maggie Q does make you want to hit the gym and sign up for a gun club and go shopping for hot skintight leather goods.

      PINTEREST, DENISE... DOOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIT!!!!!

  9. Brands on Twitter that act just like Urban Decay did/does can suck it. Hate sh*tty customer service and UD should realize that Twitter is just another platform for increasing their customer service. Though, I will give a gold star to Sephora for refunding you for UD's faulty packaging. This is why they deserve *some* of my money!

I also have the habit of falling for really lame shows on the verge of cancellation but VERONICA MARS WAS NOT LAME. Still burns that it was cancelled but FIST PUMPS FOR NIKITA'S RENEWAL!!! I will catch you this Friday for the finale :D

    1. Season 3 was kind of veering into lame territory but I blame it on the showrunners pandering to network demands (for more romance, glamour and style - all of which goes AGAINST the original gritty noir vibe of the show). My brother says we only have enough bandwidth this month for one hour of video and I'm saving it for the Nikita finale! YES! lol

  10. You crack me up!!! First of all-- I am starting to feel a little *off* of UD myself. I am planning a blog about how not so great they are despite the hype. Secondly, I ALSO fall in love with shows about to be cancelled... sorta like dating men you know you will never marry ;) Did you ever catch "Lie to Me"? It's great-- a deception expert/ anthropologist who studies body language. On Netflix on demand now. Season 3 deteriorates, but the first coupla seasons are worth it.

    1. Nope, haven't seen Lie To Me. There are so many shows to watch, I can't keep them all in the lineup, lol!

So many shows fail for me at Season 3. LOST lost me but picked itself up around 4-5 (I forget which). Then the last season/finale RUINED it. Yeah, I'm still bitter!!

I don't want to hate UD completely but I'm far from being enamoured of them as of late. >:[

  11. Ugh, I'm so sorry about the UD packaging/customer service fiasco! I've used UDPP a couple times and really liked it, but the other negatives certainly dampen my opinion of it. And I'll have to check out Nikita! I've been watching Happy Endings lately, because I tend to gravitate towards comedies in my free time (real life is dramatic enough already), but I'm almost done with that, and a little spy camp drama could be just the ticket!

    1. I actually like the UDPP as a product. It's just they have so many packaging issues with those damn potions.

Never heard of Happy Endings! I could probably do with some more comedies but I like the shows that have characters crawling in shadowy corners, hahaha!

  12. You have hands down the most entertaining blog posts of all time, even if you don't intend for these ridiculous things to happen (what with all the smashing and LIZ HULK SMASHING). In all seriousness though, I look forward to your writing because your sense of humor is my sense of humor. And because you just.can't.make.this.stuff.up.

    2. Oops, I shouldn't have hulked the enter button so soon. It's Oceane by Outremer. Even the bottle looks lovely. Ok, I'm done comment stalking. (or am I)

  13. Good! Also, I forgot to say the Urban Decay has one of the worst PR in the business. They are notoriously cliquey and mostly unhelpful. I say hear, hear to your unfollow. And that scarf? Can you HULK SAIL that over here? I wants to borrow.
I only have one rant- traffic. I don't know if I even need to elaborate. Just. Traffic. HONK HONK SMASH. >.< oh, and you made me order a perfume. the beachy one you featured in your sea-inspired post. Yeah, can't wait to get it.

    1. Well, for traffic I think everyone needs a *PROFANITY HONK PROFANITY* horn but that would probably result in multiple catastrophic accidents by the minute, lol!

Yay, you got Oceane!!! I was thinking of putting mine on the blog sale but dammit it's such a nice summery perfume. Need to wear the ish out of it. :D
