Welcome to SAMPLE MONTH

Like many beauty lovers, I hoard a huge stash of samples that seem to multiply on their own. Let's face it: we love the idea of freebies, even in tiny vials and one-time-use packets. At the least, we can test the sample to see if there's an allergic reaction. At best, it will open our eyes to a new product or brand we never would have given a second thought to otherwise.

The range of samples include hair and skin care products, makeup, and perfume. (Oh god, the amount of perfume samples I own and never reviewed.)

The challenge for myself is this:

30 days
minimum of 30 samples

Starting tomorrow, I'll be reviewing each sample in a short post every day for the month. (Or 2-3 samples in one post a few times a week, depending on how life goes. Right now life is pretty boring, which is why I'm blogging almost every day.) Anything that I don't like gets tossed, sold or given away. Anything remotely suspiciously close to being expired goes to garbage. And anything I fall in love with gets a glowing review on here. By December, I'll have cleared out a lot of physical and mental clutter. I've had this blog for two years (yay, anniversary) and there hasn't been much progress. I'm stretching the Reductionista act for another year, and then we'll have to reassess the entire endeavour. Until then, you'll see declutter projects like these crop up now and then.

Check back tomorrow for Sample #1!

    1. Thanks, Dovey! I took the bowl pics a while back but your recent post of perfume samples reminded me to talk about it. :)

  3. Love the idea, Liz! I've been working very hard on my samples too and I've decided to try to give away some unloved products to coworkers - I want space in my beauty cabinet! Space!!!

    1. I have noticed! Your last empties was remarkable. :) I give a lot of things away but the people around me have become rather overwhelmed, lol.

  4. Yay, GO LIZ! Sounds exciting! Looking forward to your short reviews. :)

  5. Yay! That bowl is so CUTE––my untrieds are laying in an orange box lid. It's colorful, and large enough to hold my...rather large collection, but it's nowhere near as visually appealing (nor as CUTE!) as that bowl.

Also, I heartily approve of the whole sample-begone endeavor. It's like instant-gratification, reductionista-style! And that was a sentence with entirely too many dashes. Stats has broken my brain, I apologize.

    1. I figured the bowl would help me to stare at the samples and work towards actually sampling them, but so far I just stare. O_______O

      I - love - dashes ---- !

  6. How fun is this! Can't wait to read your sample reviews! I totally agree - samples are the best way to try products you might not normally give a go!

    1. Thanks! We go to so much trouble to score them, so why not use them up, right?

  7. I'm excited to follow along with this! I'm actually jealous of your samples collection! I've used up most of mine and need to stock up again because they're a godsend for overnight trips, motorcycle trips (yes, i still put on my battle face under my helmet!), useless fancynight clutches, work drawers, car glove compartment, yadda yadda. The fact that most of the time they're free is pretty much as awesome as pre-sliced bagels.

On that note, i'm about to make a couple sample orders of indie perfumes so maybe I'll have my own little bowl of them soon! ;)

    1. I don't go on trips these days... otherwise they might have been used up more steadily. ;(

Ooooh, I want to know about your indie perfumes! Do a post or tell me what they are!!!

  8. Go go go! I agree, they are helpful for testing any immediate reactions, and perfume samples are imperative.

    1. Yes! If I can't even finish a perfume vial, I should not be thinking of purchasing the full bottle.

    1. I tried to throw in a handful of mini sample reviews in the empties posts but I found it's too slow. This is a temporary way to bulldoze through them for a breakthrough. :D Good luck with yours!

  13. Sometimes I think that at one point in time, I'm gonna run out of things to talk about, after all, I'm simplifying... :P

    1. I'm not going to run out any time soon. There's always lots to talk about, not just products.

  14. That's a great idea.
I have a lot of samples too, and I don't even take them when I travel because I'm too worried about sensitive reactions to trying new skincare or looking weird in makeup that dorsnt suit me while I'm travelling.
You've inspired me to get my own samples out and visible and try to finish as many as I can in November.
    thank you!

    1. I found a good skin care routine and was scared of the same, so that's why face and skin care samples have been taking a back seat. But I get the itch to play around once in a while, so here we are. It's silly to accrue them for no reason, right? :) Good luck!

    1. Thanks, Gaelle! Sometimes I save these for "just in case" - but lately my life has been very routine. So I'm busting these out. lol Keeping small amounts is my goal. :)

  17. Oh yay, this sounds fun! I have lots of samples too, I've actually been trying to use them instead of save them lately. I'll be doing a post with mini reviews too, at some point.

    2. I hear you!!! I'm really trying to work my way through all of my samples and testers as well-- while I have made a dent I still have a large stash of stuff to work my way through. I am also trying to make a dent in full sized products as well, but I could swear that these things multiply at night while I'm sleeping! I am happy to say that I have nearly finished all of my perfume samples which feels like a huge accomplishment because there were so many of them!! It will be very satisfying to your your Empties post next month!!! :)
