Sample Month Day 15: Bath and Body Works French Baguette Candle

I said I would haul 4-8 of these but wimped out and got only 2 TO MY GREAT REGRET. The nearest B&BW is completely sold out of the 3-wicks and I am super upset. Apparently it's coming back in a repackaged form at some point, but the 200 sales associates in my face at the store today didn't know for sure and kept trying to get me to buy the little ones. Honestly, I try to be nice because I know they're just doing their jobs, but how can they "help" me when they can't answer any of my questions??????

When I first sniffed it at the store, I wasn't sure that it really translated to that heavenly freshly baked bread smell. Upon lighting it, I have to say that it definitely doesn't. However, it has a buttery-toasty scent that warms the air and I just love to burn it for hours while catching up on my escapist TV shows, tucked in bed in PJs with fluffy socks and a giant mug of Forever Nuts Tea. Here's the Reductionista Household assessment on French Baguette:

MOM: POPCORN THEATRE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!

BROTHER: Uhhhh... why does it smell like popcorn?

SISTER: Your popcorn candle! So cute!

(See why I need this blog? You people keep me sane.)

I did my best to be a trooper through October but November has been a particularly difficult month. This candle has been a big part of my stress relief process and I've already burned through one and a half candles. BELIEVE YOU ME, I WILL BE STOCKING UP... if I can find a store that still carries the 3-wicks. On that note, please excuse my absence in comments and the blogosphere in general for a while. I'm poor company lately and about to get 200% busier. The daily sample posts will continue because having a project is good for the distracted soul. It's either that or get drunk and cry every night. I think we all prefer the former. I never thought that I would say this, but thank goodness for Bath & Body Works and Davids Tea.

  1. I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling like yourself. Be kind to yourself and know that many are sending you lots of good thoughts.

I am really enjoying your sample a day. It has inspired me to try to plow through my samples.

    1. Thank you, JoElla. You have a knack for popping up and saying the kindest thing when I need to hear kind words. :) I got tired of dealing with a very long, ongoing ordeal that seems to have no end. There's no way "out" as it deals with people I love very much, but it makes me really tired in all possible ways. I try to take it easy and recoup nightly but there are days when I move like a zombie. But I'm not giving up! I just need more candles. ;)

Good luck with your samples! Let me know how it goes!

  2. Awwww....what's going on, Liz? Anything I can do to help? You know that all you have to do is ask...

I've never bought a 3-wick candle; never even thought to do so, but it makes sense if you're planning on having it lit for quite a while. And I love popcorn! If this baby smells like that, then I'm guessing I need to sniff it out for myself!

Sending you strength and healing vibes xx

    1. Thanks, Eugenia. I can't really talk about it on here but someday I'll regale you with all of my secrets. ;) I appreciate the concern and open ears! Our exploding Twitter chat went a long way to restore the balance that day. Thanks for that. :)

Do let me know if you end up picking this up!

  3. Ah, hopefully things pick up again soon. Work is frustrating me right now, too, so we're all in this together, you know? :P

I don't think this one smells like popcorn, but I haven't lit it yet. Working through some older candles. CHIN UP, LIZ!

    1. I wish it was just work stress. Being at work is sometimes a relief. :( But the chin is going to get a lot of sleep this weekend and go up by Monday.

LIGHT IT ALREADY. I need a second opinion!

  4. Poor Liz - I hope my little package will cheer you up some. I love buttery/toasty scents, if you ever have the opportunity, try Haus of Gloi Ghost Puffs - very, very yummy. Right now, I'm enjoying B&BW Pumpkin Caramel Latte candle, which actually smells like walnut icecream. How delicious! Sending you lots of hugs xxx

    1. Thanks, Moni. :) Hope you like my package, too!

I'll definitely try some Haus of Gloi some day - I hear so much about it! And I liked the Pumpkin Caramel Latte but found it a tad sweeter than I would have liked.

  5. Aww, Liz. :( I will keep an eye out for these candles for you when I go to Buffalo tomorrow. Also, since it smells like popcorn, have you checked out the new Toffee Crunch candle? It smells exactly like caramel popcorn and even though I don't like food scents, I MUST HAVE THIS ONE.

    LOL @ your mom.

    1. You can just hear the broken English shouting, right?

Buffalo! Oh god, I'm so scared of your Cheesecake Factory posts that are bound to make me hungry at 1am. I haven't come across Toffee Crunch actually! I was stalking this store for the past three days watching for French Baguette and sniffing everything for replacement potential but no sign of Toffee Crunch. Maybe this is a shit location - but it's at First Canadian Place and usually things are pretty nice there.

  6. Hope you start to feel better soon Liz! This candle smells amazing, every year I lament the lack of B&BW on our shores, makes me sad that I miss out on so many beautiful scents. I wish they weren't so heavy and I could ship them over here, we can get them from ebay but minis and even their shipping is mental

    1. Thanks, Emma!

I'm sure you guys have other similar stores? In terms of quality, it's not that great and you're not really missing out, but it can be fun because of the frequent BOGOs and the 1001 variety of scents. Canada only got B&BW a handful of years ago so I remember feeling the same.

  7. Feel better soon, Liz! :) I think candles are great stress relief. I often find myself just staring at the flame flicker for a little while. (And I'm not a freak/pyromaniac by the way LOL.)

    1. Thanks, Maggie. :)

I like to stare at the flames as well. What I'd really like to do is rest it by the window but there's no space there and the potential of starting a curtain fire is 100% guaranteed. And I'm not a freaky pyro either. ;)

    1. Thanks, Amy! I know and it helps a lot. :)

The little things are all I have at the moment so I've decided not to feel guilty about this month's splurges. I hope you're heading into a nice and wonderful weekend. :)

  11. Novermber is the blowiest of all the blowtastic winter months. No holidays or pretty snow to distract one from the wretchedness. I adore you for having the fortitude to commit to the sample project. (Though I highly recommend drunkenness as a stopgap measure as well. It's how I choose to deal with Retail Hell this time of year.)

    1. LOL Maggie :D

I don't mind retail hell because I love retail therapy, but November seriously needs a holiday or 10. Thanks for the support and let's keep on boozing. ;)

  12. Let's have a drunk cry-fest via twitter! Oh wait, is that being supportive or...? Ah, just take it as such, plus a little commiseration :) I am sorry its been a rough month though, keep on burnin' those candles - whatever helps!

I never get to B&BW and I've never purchased one of their candles but you make me REALLY REALLY want to. The day after I got back home there were candles on sale at Lawtons so I bought a ton and pretty much used them up already. So I'm in need of new ones. You're right, they really are a great way to comfort a sad soul (that and my fake fireplace. And booze. Whatever it takes!)

    1. LOL, I think it counts as commiserating. I'm such a candle whore right now, it's ridiculous. There are seven new candles this month. EEEEEK.

I honestly can't stand 99% of the scents in there right now (aside from Warm Vanilla Sugar) but this one is much softer and just all around warm and comforting on a cold day. Give it a try if you can. And I'm there with you with the fire and booze, lol!

  13. French Baguette was my ultimate FAVORITE scent from B&BW but as if January, I found out the scent is discontinued!! The store associate was certain it would be a permanent item but even on their website, you can't find it. I am so disappointed. I have no idea it would be discontinued. :(

    1. Awww. :( After this post, when they went on sale, I got four more 3-wicks. Then they went on mega sale in January and I knew that was going to be it. Maybe if we badger them enough, they'll bring it back?
