I know it's kind of a cliche to pair gold eyes with red lips, but I can't help it if that's a look that I fell head over heels for this season. What can I say? I'm a late bloomer. :-)
It kind of makes sense for me to delve into gold shadows at this point in time, as an extension to my favourite
"barely there" shadows.
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in
Sandy Gold makes a second appearance as a tie-in to the original post. The others are a mix of old and new things:
L'Oreal Infallible in
Goldmine,
Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure Gold Sparkle Powder and
theBalm Snobby from the
Nude 'tude Palette.

My preference for gold shadows is still quite tame. I don't like them to be too yellow as it just feels like too much yellow on top of my Asian olive undertone. I also don't like them to lean too silvery either. The middle of the line gold is truly difficult to find, and a part of me is still on the hunt for
that perfect shade.

As you can see, the yellowest is
Snobby.
Sandy Gold is almost flesh-coloured and looks nearly rose gold at times. On the lids, Sandy Gold is nearly invisible and adds a nice sheen to the lids and truly belongs in the "barely there" category rather than among the golds. My favourite of the lot is
Goldmine for the bling factor. You pat a bit of that on your lids and watch as you suddenly look 100 times more awake than you've ever been in your life. As for
Pure Gold, it's a loose sparkle powder that's meant to be added as a final touch to a look for added shine and shimmer, not for any intensity of colour.
In general, I'm quite happy with the round-up of gold shadows in my stash. I'm not going to go crazy looking for that elusive perfect gold shade, but if I do find "it", you bet I'll snatch it up. What's your favourite gold shadow and what are you wearing for Christmas?
Nice collection of golds Liz! The only gold I wear is rose gold and I have a few of those I love. I'm really liking icy whites and pinks at the moment for some reason-so unlike me but it's just how I'm feeling becuase it's SO FREAKIN' COLD out here!
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best Liz! Happiness and health and lots of good food!
Happy Christmas! xoxo
Rose gold is so pretty but I don't like how it wears on me. I'm glad we got this straightened out between us, LOL. :) Icy whites and pinks look wonderful on you, Snow Queen, so I understand why you're drawn! Merry Christmas, Tracy!!!!!!!! xxxxxxxoooooooooxxxxxxxx
DeleteNow I want Goldmine, fabulous. That better not be another stupid Canada-exclusive shade :P I like golds, too! A lot! I think I have a handful scattered across palettes...they're usually some of my most oft-used shades ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's permanent so we can always send you one, lol. You do have some nice golds! I also like mixing gold in with some other colours for added warmth and depth. :)
DeleteGoldmine is AMAAAAAZING. I don't really wear gold on my eyes, because I'm not a huge fan of gold on me, but you are making me reconsider. There's one in the MUA palette that's nice, though quite yellow, and...I think that's it. I tend to gravitate towards beigey-champagney shimmers, and the one in Tarina Tarantino Fantastical is awesome.
ReplyDeleteYes, reconsider! I can't imagine gold not looking nice on anyone, and there's a huge variety of the kinds of golds that might work better on you. Beigey-champagney is awesome too and I'm just loving all shimmery shades lately. :D
DeleteI lovelovelove Goldmine! I'm also a fan of gold shadows but I don't think I actually have many at all. You're inspiring me to add a little kiss of gold to my inner lids today :)
ReplyDeleteRock it, Vita! Bet it will look amazing on you. :)
DeleteI have the same requirements for and taste in hold eyeshadows as you. Goldmine is lovely!
ReplyDeleteWell then, you need to get Goldmine if you don't already have it! :)
DeleteHi Liz, I hope you're having a very Merry Christmas holiday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of golds! I like how well Sandy Gold blends into the skin!
Hi Dovey - MERRY CHRISTMAS! :)
DeleteI like the way Sandy Gold catches the light even though as a colour it's not very visible. :)
Goldmine is gorgeous! I wore a gold eyes + red lips look too, for a holiday concert I was performing in. It's such a classic, effortlessly chic holiday look. Have a lovely Christmas, Liz! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear it! :) Hope you're having a great Christmas Day, Maggie!
DeleteI have Goldmine and its a gorgeous gold shadow! Merry Christmas, Liz!
ReplyDeleteGlad you agree! Merry Christmas, Paris! :)
DeleteSandy Gold is gorgeous in the pot, too bad it's so sheer applied. This makes me want to go through my stash and round up all my golds. It's one of my favorite colors, so I know I have tons. :)
ReplyDeleteSandy Gold looks sheer but it catches the light in the prettiest way, which is why I kept it. :) I'd love to see the round-up when you finish going through the stash!
DeleteThis post is reminding me to try L'Oreal's Infallible eyeshadows soon... Goldmine looks GORGEOUS.
ReplyDeleteI love gold eyeshadow for the holidays, cliched or not. :P But when I do gold, I like a bolder, warmer gold. And even though pairing it with a red lip is predictable, it's still one of my favourite looks. I love MAC Amber Lights on the eyes and Viva Glam I on the lips. :)
I really like the Infallibles from the shades I have tried. I need them to come out with more, more, MORE! LOL
DeleteMy favourite gold is actually Venetian Tarnish which you gave me! It's much darker than these so I didn't include it in this post. Just googled Amber Lights and it's so pretty. :D
Happy holidays Liz! I think gold might just be my favorite eyeshadow color! It really does look so perfect with red for the holidays. I like Chanel's Apparence and MAC Blonde's Gold pigment. I like to wear white-golds year round. xx
ReplyDeleteYou have amazing taste so it's really nice to hear what your picks are. Hope you're having a lovely Christmas Day! :)
DeleteMerry Christmas Liz! Love pairing gold with red lips, it is a cliche because it is so easy to make it look good, I think. I have Goldmine but my favourite shadow of the moment is the Infallible in Amber Rush, reminds me of rose gold in the best possible way, and I'm finding it very wearable :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying the holidays, Emma! :)
DeleteI don't know which one Amber Rush is but sounds very pretty! Will have to keep the eyes peeled for it.
Ow my... what a difference!! From this one to your immediately next new post... as from a unicorn to a mule.
ReplyDeleteYour choice for the Gold for Christmas pallete is so... so lovely, they look soft, lightly magical and so posh! Love them all!
An advice, keep those above to your next Halloween makeup. You'll rock like no other, I'm telling you. (laughs!)
Kidding, I believe that there may be a technic underneath those dark shades, once you get them they can pretty much impress you.
Cheers, dear.

Lol! I'm remembering now that you're partial to golden shades. :) Hope you're having a nice holiday season, hon!
DeleteI'm still looking for that 'perfect' gold too, Liz. I bought LM's Gilded Moonlight, which is a middle-of-the-road gold but it's still not quite it. I like MAC's Melon quite a bit, which is probably the closest to what I'm looking for. Too yellow would look horrible on me too, and too coppery orange (like MAC's Amber Lights which is a challenge for me) is garish. Nevertheless, despite it's elusiveness, I do love gold as a shadow color - I guess it just makes me feel 'rich' ha.
ReplyDeleteI loved the new LM shadows but they weren't really what I was looking for either! Why do I feel like our perfect golds are available in ETKs only??? LOL
DeleteI know what you mean about finding the right shade of gold; I have yellow/sallow undertones in my skin too so I have to make sure the shade I choose doesn't enhance that (so not the look I go for, lol!). My favourite gold shades to date are hands down the Armani Eyes to Kill - rich, complex and wear like iron. The only thing I don't love about them is the price....
ReplyDeleteWhich shades do you have/are your favourites, Eugenia?? You don't know how many times I've looked at them. I like the ones that are #24-26. :)
DeleteL'Oreal's Goldmine is gorgeous...I love gold but golds that do not lean too yellow or orange because I've yellow toned skin. I think warm golds look fabulous on tanned skinned too. Hope your holidays are going great!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree.
DeleteThanks and hope yours is going well too (judging from your Instagram pics, they are fabulous!)
Im really cool toned and can't seem to pull off golds... I prefer a good cool blingy taupe!
ReplyDeleteThere's something for everyone! I avoid silvers for the opposite reason, because my skin seems too warm for it.
