End of the Nail Polish Slump with Essie Mojito Madness

I've been in a nail polish slump for 5-6 months. I used to change my nail polish every 2-3 days without break, collecting multiple bottles per month and always being on the lookout for new shades. Then one day, I just couldn't anymore. I didn't want to apply any, I didn't want to buy any, and I didn't care about the new stuff.

And when St. Patrick's Day rolled along and everyone featured green polishes and makeup, I was like, "Naaaaaah."

But all that pep -- it got to me. I was sequestered at home with readings and assignments and wishing desperately for spring to arrive, and green seemed like a good choice given the situation. So I pulled out the greenest of all my green polishes.

Essie Mojito Madness / OPI Green-Wich Village / OPI Jade Is The New Black

And in case I was overlooking something, I also pulled out the pastels.

Essie Mint Candy Apple / Essie Absolutely Shore / Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet

I had picked up Mojito Madness last year to cheer myself up. It came through for me again this year. It's such a peppy green! Cheer!

It does, however, emphasize any redness on the skin. But still. It tricks me into thinking that balmy spring weather is near.

Pantone Color of the Year? Sure. Next I'll be going through my eye shadows to see what kind of greens I've been neglecting. This could be the beginning of a new madness.

  1. Hi Liz, I'm getting converted to Essie Mojito Madness thanks to you! I don't really have a good medium green, but had been looking at Pretty Edgy as well.

    1. Dovey, I think you need it, even if it's just for one of the Inspired By Art series. :D

  2. Looks great on you but the redness-pulling properties would be disastrous on me... I do love the Absolutely Shore though, sadly discontinued now!

    1. I had two bottles of Absolutely Shore at one point. Will send you one if I locate the extra!

  3. Love how bright and cheerful this looks on you :> I'm in kind of a slump too... Its harder to get excited about new collections when I know I already have polishes that are very close

    1. It's really hard to justify new purchases at this point of saturation. I'm a bit smitten by some upcoming Dior summer shades but must be strong. :<

  4. SO MANY PRETTY GREEN POLISHES!!! I keep thinking I want to try more green polishes, and I do see ones I like, but for some reason I haven't grabbed more. For the moment my favorite green is a england Dragon! I think Mojito Madness is beautiful against your skin tone!

    1. I'm not a big fan of green polishes but somehow wound up with a nice collection, lol. A England Dragon is missing though! That is a gorgeous one!

  5. Ah so many lovely green shades!Love the look of that Essie shade. I ended up not doing my nails for St Pat's as I had work and just couldn't be bothered. Have since pulled out my greens as well though and plan on rocking a gradiant mani soon!

    1. I wasn't going to bother either but decided last minute that I needed some spark of festivity. Can't wait to see your mani!

  6. I bought Mint Candy Apple the other day and I love it! By coincidence, I was wondering how it looked compared to SH's Mint Sorbet, so thanks for psychically picking up on that somehow and posting a picture of them together. ;)

    1. Lol! You're welcome. ;) Mint Candy Apple always surprises me with how cool it is. I'd say SH Mint Sorbet is its warmer fraternal twin.

    1. I'm ashamed to report that I haven't actually worn Green-Wich Village on my fingers yet. :< I think it's too warm on me and I much prefer Mojito Madness.

  9. This exact same feeling happened to me, but with Dior Electric Blue. I let S choose what I was going to wear on my nails (I actually do this often, because I can't choose, haha) and even though I wasn't really feeling it when he picked it, I put it on. And it's SO CHEERY. It's fixed everything, hahahaha.

    1. Nah, mint is strong every spring season! I just prefer brights over pastels in general. :)

    1. Thanks, Su. I moisturize my hands like a crazy person. :) But I have to say that my nails are quite ridgy and that's my fault for not taking enough calcium.

  14. Glad to hear that the slump is over, my friend and what a great (and vivid) way to come back into the lacquer fold! What I find bizarre is that this shade can sure pull out red tones in the skin when you take pictures of it, but I find it pretty neutral seen in person - not that I'm complaining, as I love this shade too! Looks fabulous on you!

    1. I have minimal redness on hands and just had a few patches near the nails the day I took this picture. Otherwise I don't mind at all and find the shade too cheerful to dwell on that fact. It's almost the perfect green. :)

  15. Greens suit you Liz, you wear 'em with panache. I wish they didn't look so damn GAUDY on me! Can't win 'em all I guess!

  16. Well hello! Just got my internet access back the day after I cried to you, Larie and Tracy! I've got Green-Wich Village in my collection and it was my choice for St Pat's Day 2012 although I remember it looked almost too green on me! I love the slightly cooler toned Mojito Madness on you - a great choice :)

    1. Haha, maybe crying was a good thing. :D

I definitely prefer cooler greens in general over warm greens, but it kind of fluctuates. I'm still sitting in ambivalence when it comes to green. But thank you! I think Mojito Madness would look great on most skin tones.
