Summer 2013 Wish List

It seems that wish list collages are all the rage. I kept trying to compile one for months, but the list just grew more and more monstrous as time passed. It's difficult picking just a handful of products when endless waves of exciting new things are on the horizon. Anyway, somehow (oh so much work) I managed to pick out 11 of my picks to talk about today.

Summer 2013 Wish List

Estee Lauder Pure Color Illuminating Gelee in Heat Wave - Damn it if that isn't one of the most gorgeous things I've seen all year. It's difficult to find a gold highlighter that isn't too pearly or too rosy or too yellow. This looks just about perfect. Danielle of Bloomin' Beauty has a helpful post of swatches and comparisons here.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Eye Shadow Palette in Batik Sun - I was sure that I had enough eye shadow palettes to satisfy me for... like, forever. Then this thing comes along. It just screams summer at me. I can almost feel the UV rays doing their best to give me a sun burn. Karen of Makeup & Beauty Blog reviews the palette as well as the entire Bronze Goddess collection here.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Candle - It was the dead of winter when I took a sniff of Neroli Portofino EDT and was mentally transported to a sunny poolside vacation. I've been obsessed with neroli ever since. While I do like the EDT a lot, it hardly seems worth the cost given its short life span and generic quality. Being the candle whore that I am, of course I'd rather jump at the candle variation of it.

Shiseido Foundation Brush - I'm tired of the two traditional paddle-shaped foundation brushes I have. "Buffing" the foundation into the skin seems to be the latest technique. Pretty sure that I'll be getting this at some point. Just a matter of when.

Illamasqua Nomad - I swatched it here. Feeling reluctant to shell out CAD$18 for a nail polish at this point in time, but I saw it on a Sephora SA and thought it looked amazing. Almost a done deal. Let me just get rid of at least 100 other nail polishes first.

Laura Mercier HydraTint SPF 15 in Crimson Tint - It's basically a nicer version of Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple, which I had major packaging issues with. Just to make sure this Laura Mercier HydraTint wouldn't do the same, I twisted the tester up and down multiple times like one of those crazy Sephora customers. It felt super moisturizing and the colour saturation was just about perfect - sheer when you want it to be, buildable to mid-coverage with a nice sheen to the lips. GIMME.

Clarins Rouge Eclat in 09 Juicy Clementine - Haven't tested it on the lips but it looks as if it will give me the orange lips of my dreams. I just know it.

L'Oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain - I'd like one or ten please! Seriously, it looks great on every single person who ever reviewed it. My new blog crush sleep and water posted a great review here. I'm wavering a bit now, so maybe I'll just grab just one on sale and test it out.

Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum - Reviewed here. I obtained another sample pot from Sephora to re-live the glory. Once I streamline my skin care routine and get rid of the excess, this miracle product will take its rightful place on my vanity, permanently.

Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber Cologne - I was never a fan of Jo Malone's faint, flyaway scents, but this cologne is the closest scent to Earl Grey Tea replicated in perfume form. On me, it smells strongly of tea at first and fades to a watery cucumber smell -- like the refreshing cucumber waters you get a fancy spas. I don't normally enjoy cucumber scents, but this was actually quite nice. It didn't last long on the skin, which I wasn't horribly impressed by, but someone suggested that I use it as a summer scent during intense heat waves. So that's exactly what I want to do!

Josie Maran Argan Infinity Cream - I think this has potential to become one of those holy grail type items. I tried it on my hands, and while oily in texture, it absorbed wonderfully into the skin and left it feeling super soft and supple. The concept behind this product is that you can use it for everything: as a lip balm, hand cream, cuticle salve, and even to tame flyaways and frizz.

You might be wondering why I'm calling this a summer wishlist when spring isn't even here yet, but I was weaned on fashion before getting sucked into the beauty world and tend to think two seasons ahead when it comes to "preparing." Also, spring is a ridiculously short season in Toronto. We're basically going to go from winter parkas to 2 weeks of leather jacket weather to 4 months of shorts and flip flop season. Shopping for spring means also shopping for summer to me.

Am I going to get all of them? Eventually, maybe. For now I'm content to admire from a safe distance (at home, online, in my pajamas, credit card hidden somewhere far away). The permanent items will always be there, and I'm going to wait a little longer to see how the limited edition products fare before jumping into the fray.

I'd ask what your wish list looks like... but I get the feeling you already made one and I'm the last person in the world to post mine!

PS. Don't forget to enter the Teeny Tiny Giveaway, ending on March 20.

    1. I don't think that I'll like the Sugar & Spice scents and didn't bother sniffing even though they were right in front of me.

And this is called a wish list precisely because I can't buy much ATM either. Otherwise it's a shopping list! :)

  2. Hm, I want to make a summer wishlist, now! Makeup hasn't really been catching my eye, except for the new Dior glosses! I loved the one I had a lot, and I have been recently feeling its lack - nothing else I have is kind of sheer and lightweight and good for those days where I don't want to look like I have a beauty blog, you know? :P

    1. Make one - now! :D

I'm kind of admiring things here and there but without the compulsive urge to run out and grab, like in the past. I do need a new foundation, but it's not like I'm going anywhere important these days, so there's no rush!

  3. I wasn't going to get Heat Wave, but I was at Sears today and swatched and OMG SO PRETTY MINE. Got the last one too.If you are thinking of that one you best hurry methinks! I looked at the palette too and it is really nice, but I have SO MANY coral and teal shadows so nay to that for me. It's worth it if you don't have those colours-the gold shadow is AMAZE. :)

    1. Ugh, I want them so badly but can't justify right now. It took everything in me to walk away the first time. If I approach the counter again, it's going to result in a guilty splurge. I'll just admire yours from afar! :)

  4. I fully support the Shiseido Perfect Foundation brush! One of my favourite foundation brushes, it gives such lovely, even, high coverage without looking cakey. I'm debating publishing a wishlist, but I can't decide if it would make me feel better or worse haha!

    1. LOL! That's kind of how I was feeling while compiling the collage, but now that it's out there, I feel kind of better. It's like exorcising the beast within, haha.

  5. Oh man, I love list collages! They're so pretty! And fun! I also really want the Estee Lauder highlighter, even though I don't wear highlighter and would get next to no use from it (so preeeeetty though). I really, REALLY want to try the Jo Malone Earl Grey perfume, but haven't had the chance to yet (it's on my to-do list when I'm in Seattle!), and I need to try the Hourglass serum stuff (also on my to-do list, ha!). Though the normal primer did give me a slight case of eczema...and flat-topped foundation brushes are the best. I have the Real Techniques one and I love it almost more than I love penguins (that's, like, unheard of).

    1. I know, I don't really wear highlighters either and already have like 5!

A lot of people didn't end up liking Hourglass Veil Mineral as much as I did, but the same people also turned out to love No. 28. But your skin is so finicky, we never know until you try a sample. :(

There is no way brushes win out over cute waddling penguins. NO WAY. #denial

  6. So sweet for the shoutout, thank you so much Liz :) I've been meaning to buy that Shiseido foundation brush as well, but was kind of put off by how tiny it looked when I saw it in real life (and the price didn't help either). Been religiously using and loving my Real Techniques Buffing Brush though! And I am a fan of the Josie Maran argan oil, so that cream sounds right up my alley too. Wish Josie Maran were easier to get a hold of where I live though!

    1. Of course! Your blog is amazing. :)

I was also surprised by how small the brush was, but precise application is my new thing and I often wish all my brushes were just slightly smaller than they really are. I'm waiting to grab some RT buffing brushes when they finally show up at Walmart here - I always watch the Pixiwoo sisters buffing and really want to do the same, lol.

  9. Such a great wishlist! I totally want the Hourglass primer serum as well! And that gorgeous Estee Lauder palette for that matter!

    1. Thanks, Annick! Estee Lauder is KILLING me this season. I hate them! (Love them!)

  10. Yay--lovely wishlist, wifey!! You really must get the Shiseido brush--it's very, very nice and I know everyone has said this a million times over, but it makes foundation application absolutely effortless!

I still need to take a sniff of that Jo Malone cologne. It sounds so nice and refreshing! I'm with you on cucumber-y scents--I never liked that after being traumatized from every single girl in my middle school using B&BW Cucumber Melon and spraying clouds of it on at every passing moment. But you make this one sound delightful! And I just really like the idea of using a light cologne in the dead of summer. Sounds so chic and refreshing! :D

    1. I'll definitely get the Shiseido brush! Just a little matter of income at the moment but soon it will be MINE. :D

Ack, I think you were the genius who suggested spritzing the Jo Malone in summer! And I'm pretty sure that I was the same idiot type who traumatized other girls in my classes with cheap perfumes. Oops. ;)

  11. I haven't posted mine yet, so you're not the last! I've been compiling a list in my head for the last few months of all the things I can treat myself to after school is finished later in the spring. I'm loving the look of Nomad but I agree, $18 is a hard price to swallow when I have so many unused polishes hanging around already.

    1. Ha, thanks for letting me know. ;)

      Congratulations on nearly finishing school!

I'm determined to clear out some nail polish and narrow the choices down to some nice basics and not get sucked back into collecting endless tiny bottles again. Eventually I'll make room for Nomad. :)

  12. I'm afraid to make a wish list. Actually, I'm afraid I may provoke my husband into having a heart attack if he sees the cost of said wish list. LOL!!!

I'm so curious to see the new EL summer products, and since I already have the other similar powders, you just know the collector in me will have to add this one too - a plus is all the good things I've heard about it.

That Tom Ford scent is AMAZING!!! I was given an oversize sample to try and I was almost drooling over it - used every last drop, and now I want not only the full-sized bottle (but I refuse to pay our Canadian over-inflated prices for it) but thanks to you, I've added the candle as well *shakes both fists at you*

And Nomad...Liz, it's really gorgeous and the formula to die for - you need to cave *insert insiduous whispers here*

    1. Ahaha - Eugenia, you should have seen some of my earlier drafts. Actually, just take a look at my Objects of Desire board on Pinterest. :D

The EL stuff definitely belong in your treasure trove - get thee to a counter STAT!

And you're welcome re: the candle, evil temptress. ;)

  13. THe Shiseido brush has been on my wishlist for over a year! I keep hearing really good things about, think I'll probably purchase it soon, when my current ban is over.

I really like the L'oreal lip stains and I'm desperate to get my hands on one, but everytime I am at Ulta or the drugstore, the display for these items is a mess, and dusty, and it's often obvious that the items have been opened. It's a total turn off. Sigh, hoping I'll find a sealed one one day.

    Great wishlist!

    1. When there were good sales, the L'Oreal stains were completely ransacked and I could never find the shade that I want. Eventually people will calm down and let us get to the stuff properly. EVENTUALLY. >:(

  14. Don't even think I could fit all my summer wants onto one product spread LOL. Love yours, and mmm that candle does sound heavenly. I love the L'oreal stains for going out because they stay on forever and ever and I don't have to worry about the color fading weirdly or transferring.

    1. That's why I like stains too but I'm also lazy and hate topping it off continually with lip balm. Most tend to be drying on me. I'm so curious about these ones!!!!

And no blaming me if you fall in love with the TF candle. NOT MY FAULT AT ALL. ;)

  15. I've been pining for the Estee Lauder summer collection too! Definitely have both of these on my wish list! Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush is my go-to foundation brush. You should really give it a try! It's not super expensive but it works really well! I've had mine for almost a year now :)

    1. I'm afraid to approach a counter in case I do something crazy. They also have a ravishing new blush in that collection that I didn't mention. UGH.

Thanks for the input on the Shiseido brush. I'll pick it up when I get a new job. :)

  16. You've been pining for that Tom Ford fragrance for ages! It should be your first splurge, I think. :)

For some reason, Estee Lauder's make-up fails to impress me, even with the fancy designs and whatnot. Like, regardless of the quality, I never feel the need to buy their make-up. I have no idea why.

And totally agree with the whole Spring season. Since Spring collections start rolling out in the winter, all the stuff coming out now and in the next couple months are going to be for Summer, anyway. I was excited about Spring stuff in January, lol.

    1. You know what? I'll totally take your advice under consideration and do just that as soon as I land the next full-time gig and unload some of the financial burdens. DONE AND DONE. :D

I was never into Estee Lauder in any shape or form before, but lately they are really getting interesting! I hate that this summer collection coincided with unemployment. :(

Eh, fall stuff is on the horizon. It's our job to stay ahead of the game, lol.

  17. totally obsessed with TF fragrance now!! can't wait to give Neroli portofino a sniff!!

i have the shiseido foundie brush but I think it's a lil too dense (the bristles) so the foundation look kinda 'thicker' than i wanted it to spread like /_\

lemming Earl Grey & cucumber too yay!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I've taken cursory whiffs of TF scents but the only one I truly love other than Neroli Portofino is Tobacco Vanille. That thing is HEAVEN, Jenni!

The only reason I hesitate to get dense brushes is the washing part - so much work.

  18. I'm also sort of waffling on the L'Oreal stains...they HAVE looked fantastic in every review I've read, but I don't love the packaging and I usually prefer to have the 'real thing' (aka the YSL version - though I don't like their gold packaging either - SUPER SNOB). I think I will still get one, but definitely wait till I use a few other straggling lippies up and for a sale.

I'd never read about the Josie Maran Infinity Cream, but damn you if I haven't added it to my wishlist now. THANK LIZ.

    1. I cannot abide by the YSL Canadian pricing. But nevertheless, I still want a few of them quite badly. :< I'm actually waiting for (a) a sale, and (b) my lips to heal. They're really scaly and cracked this winter and a stain is the last thing that's going to look good on them.

AND YOU'RE WELCOME RE: INFINITY CREAM. :DDD

  19. Oh I really want that Shiseido brush and that Clarins lipstick. I've actually avoided looking at summer collections - can you believe that?! I don't think it's going to last very long, though... although my VISA would like it to last as long as possible.

    1. Avoiding looking is probably the best policy. I can't really avoid it online but I am avoiding the counters. Ugh, why do they tempt us so?!??

  20. Lovely wishlist, Liz! I'm dying to get my hands on the Hourglass primer, too. I actually tried the Mineral Veil one last year and did like it, but I found it a bit too drying on my already dry areas. Juicy Clementine is also on my Summer wishlisht (such a gorgeous shade!), and I've also been tempted to give the L'Oreal Stains a go, but have my eye on a couple of the YSL colours.

    1. I wanted the Hourglass primer/serum so badly that I went and got a sample of it from Sephora to squirrel away, lol.

I'm not a big YSL fan for some reason. The price is so ridiculously marked up in Canada that it's easy to just overlook them entirely. I'd still want their stuff but if the cheaper version suffices, I'm okay with it. :)

  21. Yay wishlist! i love these posts, and I haven't done one in a while. But my wishlist is huge, and i don't even know how to narrow it down!! anyway, i have samples of one of the hourglass primers, so i totally need to try them. i've been curious about the loreal stains too, though i have a ysl one. I remember talking about neroli portofino, i have the body oil on my list!! BUT i got a neroli scent from diptyque (my best friend grabbed it for me at the sample sale!) and that calmed me temporarily. i love the real techniques brushes so ive forgotten about wanting the shiseido lol. theres a promo code for a deluxe sample of the infinity cream on sephora.com, do you guys have that one available to you too??

    1. I think you were one of the people who did one of these wish list things and made me want to make one!

I have a Laura Mercier Neroli EDP that's going long ways to quelling the lemming for Tom Ford, BUT STILL. Ya know? LOL

I saw the Sephora code but can't buy anything right now so can't get the sample. Boo.
