Pssssssssst... do you like lipsticks? I know I do, and I know some of you are downright obsessed with collecting as many as possible. While I'm a big fan of Clarins skincare, I haven't had too many brushes with Clarins makeup. That changed a little while ago when I was given the opportunity to test drive five different lipsticks from Clarins.
Clarins has four different lipstick types:
- Rouge Eclat (Satin Finish Age-Defying Lipstick), CAD$27
- Joli Rouge Brilliant (Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick), CAD$27
- Joli Rouge (Long-Wearing Moisturizing Lipstick), CAD$27
- Rouge Prodige (True-Hold Colour & Shine Lipstick), CAD$27
As you can tell by the description, there are slight variances across the board and each type is packaged differently. I really like the appearance of the gold square tubes and think that the rounded tubes, while immediately identifiable as classic Clarins lipsticks, are in need of a design upgrade to make them stand out some more in today's competitive lipstick market. Because when it comes to the product inside the tubes, Clarins is one of the best.
Rouge Éclat in 09 Juicy Clementine - I think that the Rouge Éclat formula is my favourite of the bunch. My opinion of it hasn't changed since reviewing Pink Fuchsia. It's amazingly comfortable to wear, feels weightless and looks opaque and vibrant.
Joli Rouge Brilliant in 04 Praline - Alternately called "Perfect Shine Sheer Lipstick," it really is sheer and imparts high shine on the lips without looking goopy or glossy.
Joli Rouge in 738 Royal Plum - Don't be scared by how dark it looks in the tube! This is the shade that was being promoted in the Clarins Fall 2013 displays, and it provides just the right amount of drama and attitude.
Joli Rouge in 716 Clarins Red - If you're looking for a holiday red, this totally needs to be considered. It's classic French chicness in the form of a hydrating lipstick that would look amazing with metallic eyes.
Rouge Prodige in 127 Redwood - Rouge Prodige is like a mixture of the previous three types, delivering shine, hydration and slightly sheerer but still vibrant colour, all in one. I would have worn the hell out of these Prodiges early on in my lipstick journey had I known how comfortable they are!
Swatches! See, I told you Royal Plum isn't scary.
In case this wasn't enough lipstick for you, I added Pink Fuchsia to the party. :-)
One thing you may have noticed about these Clarins lipsticks is that they all claim hydration and shine. Joli Rouge is the closest to a classic satin-finish lipstick that delivers high impact and wearability. Joli Rouge Brilliant is its younger sister, for those graduating from lip glosses to lipsticks without diving fully into the world of opaque colours. And Rouge Éclat and Rouge Prodige are contemporary formulas that provide weightless coverage and glide in both everyday neutrals and standout vibrant shades. I find them all super easy to wear, even with seasonal dryness, and the subtle fruity scent adds to the decadent and pampered feeling.
Is there anything sexier than a brand new tube of lipstick? Ugh, I can't deal with all this awesomeness. I know that I've been giving a lot of raves lately, but it's only the simple truth. You need a Clarins lipstick, and you need one now.
